Signs It’s Time for Kids to Visit the Dentist
Table of Contents
The dental health of your child is as equally important as his overall wellbeing and health. Good dental health is best achieved by getting regular dental care that includes check-ups every 6 months. But, how will you know that it is time for your kid to visit the dentist? Check out the following indications that a dental visit is necessary sooner than later:
Mouth Pains and Toothaches
If your kid experiences pains in the tooth or mouth, it is best that you schedule an appointment with a dentist right away. Pain is how the human body communicates that something is wrong with it. The sooner a dentist gets to examine your kid, the sooner he can assess the condition and address it as needed.
In case your child has any form of dental concern in between his check-up appointments, don’t wait before you get him examined. The last thing you want is to have your child writhing in pain before you think about going to the nearest dental clinic.
Irritated Gums
Does your child complain about hurting gums after brushing? Do the gums of your kid look swollen or red or are even bleeding? During any of these situations, make sure that your child visits the dentist for examination. Having irritated gums indicates gingivitis and other types of health problems. Only a dental professional can assess and examine the problem and recommend the best course of treatment.

Brown or White Spots on the Teeth
If the teeth of your child have white or chalky spots, it could be a sign of a cavity starting to develop. If your child’s tooth is turning black or brown or has some broken fragments, you should contact your child’s dentist right away. Tooth decay tends to progress quite fast so the moment you notice any discoloration, you have to set an appointment for the dentist to perform the examination and assessment necessary.
Wiggly or Loose Teeth
As a child grows, the baby teeth fall out to give way to permanent or adult teeth. Losing his baby teeth is a part of the growth of your child and the process can happen from around 6 to 12 years. But, if the adult or permanent teeth become loose or wiggly or they suffered from trauma, contact your kid’s dentist immediately to prevent more serious issues down the road.
Cold or Hot Sensitivity
If cold or hot foods such as ice cream or hot milk make your kid suffer from dental pain, it could be a warning sign of a cavity starting to form. Once again, only the dentist can check the real problem behind such pain.
Delays and Other Problems with Permanent Teeth Breaking Through the Gums
There are children who don’t really lose their baby teeth even after their permanent teeth have erupted. If a permanent tooth fails to force the baby tooth out, the dentist will have to assess the concern and sometimes, an intervention is necessary. There are cases when the adult teeth or tooth can become extremely crooked and suffer from other concerns. A dentist can then recommend your kid to consult an orthodontist during such instances.
